Award honour for Queen of Blackpool

Pat Mancini, owner of the Queen’s Hotel, known as the Queen of Blackpool for flying the flag for local charities and raising more than A[pounds sterling]20,000 a year, will be presented with the prestigious Variety Club Award.

The Variety Club, which presents only a handful of awards per year, has previously bestowed the honour on the Bee Gees, Engelbert Humperdinck and most recently Joe Longthorne a but Mrs Mancini will be the first businesswoman in the North West to be handed the gong.

The charity queen, who has been on the Blackpool charity group, the Queendean’s Association for 20 years, raising money for everything from Trinity Hospice, equipment for the baby unit at Blackpool Victoria, and parties for local schools, said she was overcome a tribute night would be held for her.

She added: “I was amazed the Variety Club wanted to give me the award.

“When I received the phone call I was overcome with emotion.

“It will mean a lot to everyone on the committee, who have stood outside North Pier in the freezing cold after shows to collect money with me.”

The tribute night, where Mrs Mancini will be presented with the award, will take place on November 12 at the Imperial Hotel, Blackpool, and Joe Longthorne, who nominated the hotelier, will perform with his orchestra.
